Great Herring Surge on Coast of Norway

On New Year’s Eve, the fish remnants emerged on the northern coast of Norway. Officials are still searching for an explanation of why they surfaced and how.

Jan-Petter Jorgensen, one of the locals, was walking his dog, Molly, when he encountered fish remains washed ashore. He mentioned, “People say that something similar happened in the 80’s.” He was bewildered as well, but he suggested, “Maybe the fish have been caught in a deprived oxygen environment and then died of fresh water?”

Maybe that’s what happened. There are other probable justifications for this occurrence as well. For example, the fish may have been compelled to shore by predators. A vigorous storm could have also swept them onto the shoreline. The Associated Press (AP) was told by Jens Christian Holst of Norway’s Institute of Marine Research that the huge herring swell probably transpired via a “combination of factors.” According to Holst, the institute will be analyzing some of the fish; checking to see if they had possibly perished from a disease.

Locals were left contemplating the fish and what they had to do with them. However, just as suddenly as the fish had appeared, they had vanished. Holst said that the remainders of the fish had most likely been swept into the North Sea by coastal tidewaters.

Yet the question still remains: Who knows where the fish went and why they came in the first place?

new characters. Hazel is one of the new characters. She has a very interesting
background that you will read about in the book, and you will also learn about
her horrible curse. Frank Zhang is another new character that you will meet. In
this book, Frank learns about his family history and powers that he may have.
This great trio must team up on a quest that could determine the fate of the
camp they call home.

Playoff Picture

This year there are 12 great teams competing for this year’s Super bowl XLVI. The
teams from the AFC this year include Patriots, Ravens, Bengals, Steelers,
Texans, and Broncos. The teams from the NFC this year include Packers, 49ers,
Lion, Falcons, Saints, and Giants. This year’s playoff contenders are full of
many surprises. One surprise includes the young Broncos quarterback, Tim Tebow,
leading his team to a surprising playoff run. He did this when many believed he
would never be successful as a quarterback. Also, three of the four teams in
the AFC North have made it into the playoffs! Lastly, the Packers are looking
strong for another Super Bowl with a 15-1 record putting them in the 1st seed.

Robocode

Robocode is a game where you write a script in java for a tank that makes it destroy
other tanks. The game’s scored based on a point system that gives you extra
points for doing damage, ramming, and living to be the last robot. You have two
different energy levels. You have a bar for bullets left, and you have a bar
for how much more you can move. When you
ram someone or shoot someone, you gain energy. The diversity of the game makes
for a great game to script for. There are many strategies to playing this game.
Some robots just try to ram other robots which give bonus points. Other robots
just try to shoot at the enemy. There are also robots that try to just hide on
the corner of the map and get survivor bonus. However, a truly great robot gets
the best of all these robots and creates a robot that can ram, dodge, hide and
shoot depending on the situation. All of these strategies work and are best
used together. One very popular strategy is wave surfing. Wave surfing is a
strategy that involves going in an arc back and forth to dodge the enemy
bullets. All professional robots use wave surfing. Tracking is a strategy used
by robots to aimbot the enemy. The robot tracks the enemy robots movements for
about 3 seconds and then shoots the bullet to where the robot will be according
to the algorithm. Robocode is a great educational tool and I would highly
recommend it to anyone interested in coding.

Classical music

Classical music is very nice due to the wide variety
of classical music. You can almost always find something that suits you because
there is so much classical. When people hear the words classical music, some
people think of the soft preludes of Bach, while others may think of the
dramatic symphonies of Beethoven. Still others might think of, in my opinion,
the greatest composer of all; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In his death, he had
composed over 50 symphonies by the tender age of 35. Beethoven, on the other
hand, only composed nine symphonies by
his death at age 57. I would highly recommend that people listen to Rondo alla
Turca by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This is a great piece because it is a fast
paced song with a little bit of everything. Classical music is a great type of
music and I would highly recommend it to all people.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in England, until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large, Professor Moriarty, and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his size for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as interpreted by Inspector Lestrade, points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder, a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more crucial puzzle, designed by Professor Moriarty. The cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead of Holmes as he spins a web of death and destruction all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history. I would recommend this movie for moviegoers who want a little puzzle with their movie.

Spirit Week

Attention students: the week of January 16th we will be having another spirit week. The days for the spirit week are Tuesday through Thursday. On Tuesday it is favorite sports team, on Wednesday it is camo day, and Thursday it is color wars. The different colors for the grade on color wars day are 8th grade red, 7th grade blue, 6th grade green, and 5th grade orange. Remember to show your school spirit!

Snowflake man

We have probably all have heard
the saying no two snowflakes are alike. However before the late 1800’s we
didn’t know what snowflakes looked like, let alone whether any were alike. This
all changed with Wilson A. Bentley. Wilson “snowflake” Bentley was the first
person to capture the beauty of the snowflake in a photograph. After a few
years of taking pictures of snowflakes, he soon realized that no two snowflakes
are the same. In 1931, Bentley published a book called “snow crystals.” The book
contained more than 2400 pictures of snowflakes. Bentley once said “Under the microscope, I found that
snowflakes were miracles of beauty; and it seemed a shame that this beauty
should not be seen and appreciated by others. Every crystal was a masterpiece
of design and no one design was ever repeated. When a snowflake melted, that
design was forever lost. Just that much beauty was gone, without leaving any
record behind.”

The Biography of Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars is a well-known singer, songwriter, producer and musician who is known for many popular singles including Just the Way You Are, Grenade, and most recently, It Will Rain from the Breaking Dawn, Part 1. Mars was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on October 8, 1985 as Peter Gene Hernandez. His father was a Latin percussionist and his mother was a talented vocalist. They had nurtured Mars’s talents ever since he was four years old when the family would perform for natives on Waikiki Beach. In Hawaii, Mars was exposed to many different cultures and styles of music, including reggae, rock, pop, folk, and traditional. He was also well known for impersonating famous artists of the time, including Elvis and Michael Jackson.
Mars attended Roosevelt High School where he formed a band with his friends, The School Boys. They performed older hits alongside his family at the Ilikai Hotel. He recognizes how comfortable he got on the stage during this time and says that performing grew to be a natural thing for him. “Everyone in my family sang and played instruments. It’s what we do,” Mars says, according to an online interview.

After graduating high school at age 17, Bruno Mars moved to Los Angeles where he began to produce music for other artists. He established a production/songwriter company along with Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. Their first projects included Flo Rida’s “Right Round”, Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire”, Brandy’s “Long Distance” and K’Naan’s “Waving Flags.” Mars credits his time behind the scenes in the music world as an asset towards his success today.

Today, Bruno Mars is one of the most successful artists in the world of pop culture. His breakout was in 2010 with the release of “Nothin’ on You” in collaboration with B.o.B, which quickly rose to No. 1 on the Billboard Singles Chart. Just months later, “Just the Way You Are” rose to the top followed by “Doo- Wops and Hooligans” in October 2010. Children Rescued From Freezing River by Heroic Bystanders

Logan Canyon car accident – New Year’s Eve.

In Logan Canyon, Utah, on U.S. 89, Rodger Andersen had lost control of his Honda Accord when he tried to brake on a slick road while heading northbound. The car plunged into the icy Logan River; the driver had been able to free himself, but he had been unable to rescue the three kids – two of which were his own. Chris Willden happened to witness this terrible accident.

“[The driver] was panicked, doing everything he could to get in through the doors, but they wouldn’t budge,” noted former police officer Chris Willden. “I remember thinking to myself, ‘You’re going to see some dead kids, get ready.’ I’ve got three of my own and it was going to be [an awful] start to the New Year.”

Willden had tried to open the doors and windows but his attempts were futile. Finally, he just decided to use his handgun and shoot the glass of the engulfed vehicle’s windows, just as he had been trained for in his present occupation as a Department of Defense contractor and bodyguard.

One of the nine-year-old girls was trapped in her seatbelt but was still breathing adequately because she had found an air pocket. Willden used a pocket knife to free her from her seatbelt. Then he towed her through the rear passenger window. “Lifeless” is how Chris described the other two children. The second girl was bobbing around near the front passenger compartment while the boy was in his car seat upside down.

The Desert News of Salt Lake City was told by Buzzy Mullahkel that the boy hadn’t been breathing nor had a pulse, but he was revived through CPR by another passer-by.

The thirty-five-year-old hero, Chris Willden, was mending the bleeding cuts on his forearms from the broken windows when he first heard the cheers from the crowd.

“Emotions started taking over when he started to breathe. Everybody started to cheer. Lots of tears and clapping,” explained Mullahkel.

The boy and his sister were flown by air ambulance to Primary Children’s Medical Hospital in Salt Lake City where they would be put into intensive care while the driver and the second girl were miraculously able to escape injury. According to Bonnie Midget, a spokesperson for the hospital, the brother and sister were taken out of intensive care on Sunday – a good sign for the New Year – and are now listed in fair condition while being treated for hypothermia.

Mullahkel said, “Those men in the river just even now blow my mind. Look at these gentlemen, these men in this river in the middle of winter.”

Willden simply replied to this by saying that there was a mission to be accomplished. Both Chris and his father have formerly been in the military and have been civilian officers, and his mother and sister are emergency medical technicians. “It’s in our family to go out and help others,” he concluded.
